(READING, PA) – The Reading Fightin Phils tonight will honor Fleetwood resident Megan Makovsky as a recipient of the Minor League Baseball and Big Brothers Big Sisters Rising Star Student scholarship. Makovsky will be recognized prior to the Fightin Phils 7:10 p.m. game against the Portland Sea Dogs and will be a guest on the game broadcast on 610 ESPN.

She was involved in her school’s National Honor Society, Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America, Orchestra, Chorus, Stage Crew, Library Aides, Tennis, Rho Kappa, and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berks SMART (Students & Mentors Achieving Results Together) program.
In addition to being an avid volunteer on campus, Makovsky graduated in the top 5% of her class. Makovsky is a Big Sister for BBBS Berks County, and is one of 11 students across the nation who will be honored as a Rising Star Student.
As one of the nationally recognized Rising Star Student award winners, Mokovsky will receive a $500 stipend to use toward college and an MiLB backpack filled with goodies. Mokovsky will be honored by the Reading Fightin Phils as a Neighborhood Champion, and will throw out a first pitch.
Winners were nominated by their respective Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies and were selected based on their academic and personal achievements, college and career goals, and how their involvement in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program has impacted their lives.
