A Walking Theater Production on Penn Street

Story written by Maya Serres

Aug 27, 2019

This October, Reading arts group Barrio Alegria will turn four blocks of Penn Street into a stage for a free, interactive “walking theater” production. The interactive play is “Circo Del Barrio – Inocenta.”

The Circo Del Barrio, Spanish for Circus of the Neighborhood, will tell the story of a woman, Inocenta, who seeks change in her community and does everything within her power to unite community members to make this change happen, through the lens of Greek mythology and magic realism. The performances will be at 12 pm on Saturday, October 5th and Saturday, October 19th.

The audience will be led from Second and Penn streets to Sixth and Penn streets, making stops along the way for the audience to enjoy and engage in performances that advance the story.

The production will feature dance, acting, music, and food for the audience.

The event is free and is open to all ages, thanks to the Berks County Community Foundation through the Penn Street Arts Grant Program.

The performances are designed for up to 25 attendees, so attendees are requested to reserve a spot at [email protected].
