Community-wide Literary Celebration Kicks off in September

Wyomissing, PA — The Jewish Federation of Reading/Berks in partnership with Exeter Community Library and Sinking Spring Public Library announce the creation of Literatour Berks, a community-wide celebration with 16 events featuring authors, celebrities, and cultural influencers throughout Berks County. Literatour Berks is proud to bring open lectures, family programs, panel discussions and musical presentations to the community. The public is invited to a Preview Night for Literatour Berks 2019-2020 on Monday, September 9 at 7 p.m. at Jewish Cultural Center, 1100 Berkshire Blvd. Suite 125 Wyomissing, PA and Exeter Community Library, 4569 Prestwick Drive, Reading, PA.

Literatour Berks is a brand-new community program that will bring 18 authors in 16 exciting programs from October 2019 to June 2020 to Berks County. This inaugural program is presented by Jewish Federation of Reading/Berks in partnership with Exeter Community Library and Sinking Spring Public Library. A complete list of authors and topics can be found in the attached document.

Thirteen of the author events are offered free of charge with two events having a suggested donation. A community brunch will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2020 featuring Jamie Bernstein, daughter of American composer Leonard Bernstein. The brunch event will be $36 per person and held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Reading.

The community is invited to visit the JCC or Exeter Community Library on Monday, September 9 at 7 p.m. for a preview evening for Literatour Berks and learn more about the fascinating group of authors coming to Berks County this year. Guests can register for events, purchase Literatour Berks tote bags and gather informational materials.

In addition to partnering with two local public libraries, Literatour Berks is pleased to have the following community partners involved in its inaugural season: Albright College, Alvernia University, Edwin & Alma ’51 Lakin Holocaust Library & Resource Center, The LGBT Center of Greater Reading, Maimonides Society of Jewish Federation of Reading/Berks, PJ Library in Reading, PJ Our Way and Women’s Philanthropy of Jewish Federation of Reading Berks. Additional community partners include the family of Leo Camp, Susan & Michael Fromm, Sue B. Viener Memorial Fund and the family of Richard J. Yashek.

Literatour Berks is proud to have been the recipient of an outpouring of community support. The Jewish Federation of Reading/Berks is the planning, coordinating and fundraising arm of the Jewish community.
