Slapshot Wins ECHL Mascot of the Year

Reading, PA – Reading Royals Mascot Slapshot was named 2019 ECHL Mascot of the Year in a poll conducted on echl.com, with fans from around the league voting to determine the best ECHL mascot of the year.

Slapshot has been the Royals’ mascot since the team was founded prior to the start of the 2001-02 season. This is the first time Slapshot has been recognized in a vote as ECHL Mascot of the Year and follows the tradition of notable Flyers’ affiliated mascots to earn honors. Flyers mascot Gritty won a 2019 Webby Award for best sports-related social media account.

Meanwhile, Lehigh Valley Phantoms Mascot MeLVin went to the finals in the AHL’s 2018 Mascot Madness competition. The Royals open the season on Oct. 11 at Newfoundland and the team’s home opener is Oct. 19 vs. Maine at Santander Arena with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop.
