Reading, Pa. (Sept. 9, 2019) – Women’s Soccer senior Alison Hyde and Football sophomore Matt Mitchell were named Alvernia Players of the Week for their performance during the week of September 2 – September 8, 2019.

Hyde tied a six year old program record on Tuesday when she scored three goals for the Golden Wolves in a 4-0 win over Lancaster Bible College. Hyde scored her first goal of the game in the sixth minute and scored her second ten minutes into the second half. Just six minutes later, Hyde became the fourth player in Alvernia’s Women’s Soccer history to score a hat trick, joining the likes of Katelyn Gill, Bridget Verdel, and Bri McGrath – who most recently achieved the accomplishment for Alvernia back in 2013.

Mitchell led Alvernia’s defensive and special teams efforts on Friday night in a 20-14 win over Gallaudet in the season opener. Mitchell led Alvernia’s defense with eight tackles, including seven solo tackles on the evening. Mitchell also record a sack for a six yard loss that helped to stall a Gallaudet drive in the third quarter. On special teams, Mitchell punted five times for an average of 36.4 yards per punt, and pinned the Bison inside their own 20 on two occasions. Mitchell also kicked off four times for the Golden Wolves for an average of 46 yards a kick.
