Historic demonstrations headline the fun at Heemet Fescht this Saturday at Kutztown University

KUTZTOWN, PA – Kutztown University’s Heemet Fescht is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, and features Pennsylvania German folklife demonstrations, live animals, kid’s activities, folk music, food and more. Indulge your interest in regional folk culture at the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center’s annual Heemet Fescht: a celebration of the harvest and Pennsylvania Dutch farm life. Heemet Fescht is a free, fun, and educational event for the whole family.

Premier local entertainment from Mike Hertzog of the Blue Mountain Trio, Ed Goldberg and the Odessa Klezmer Band and more can be found in the barnyard. Grab a bite of Pennsylvania German cuisine provided by the Old Time Plow Boys in the Farmhouse Kitchen. Travel the site to find art created by Berks County artisans, as well as a children’s craft tent.

Experience historical and cultural live demonstrations, featuring hearth cooking, wood working, tin smithing, fiber art and more. The Sharadin farmhouse will come to life with the sound of harp music provided by Sarajane Williams of PlanetHarp. The Reading-Berks Guild of Craftsmen will be on-site to show guests traditional crafts of the Pennsylvania Germans.

The day is sure to be filled with many things to do, see and hear for those both young and young at heart.
