Bilingual Forum for Berks County Commissioner Candidates October 1

(Reading, PA) – Una Voz, Un Voto/ One Voice, One Vote, will continue its unique bilingual candidate forum for all candidates running for the office of County Commissioner for the county of Berks. This live community voter engagement event will be held Tuesday October 1, 2019, on the campus of Reading Area Community College in the Miller Center for the Arts, from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. Doors open at 6:00.

Una Voz, Un Voto/ One Voice, One Vote is a citizen-driven initiative which presents live educational public forums to inform voters about the candidates’ positions on community issues and the important role elected officials play in their communities. It was created with support from the Unity Coalition of Greater Reading (a consortium including Centro Hispano, The Jewish Federation, The Islamic Center, and the Reading Branch NAACP), the League of Women Voters of Berks County, community residents and the young voters of Berks County.

There will be a special emphasis on issues challenging both youth and Spanish-speaking voters while allowing all voters to have an opportunity to engage with the candidates in a style that is more inclusive.  The questions asked during the forum will be presented in both English and Spanish, with the candidate responses in English. Professional Spanish translation services will be provided for all those who request it.

“We are in a unique position to provide a level of political education that has not been available before,” stated Mike Toledo, CEO of Centro Hispano, and founding member of the Una Voz, Un Voto Movement.   “We were able to provide Spanish Speakers and Young voters with a platform to ask about issues and challenges that are most pressing to them”

All communities and all individuals of Berks County are encouraged to attend and participate. Doors will open promptly at 6:00 p.m with time to mingle with candidates and light refreshments. This special event will also air on Facebook Live in both English and Spanish.  Free parking will be available at the RACC parking garage behind the Reading IMAX Theater at 27 N Front St Reading, PA 19601.
