KUTZTOWN, PA – Kutztown University was presented the Sustaining Partner Award by the Northeast Berks Chamber of Commerce. Kutztown University president Dr. Kenneth S. Hawkinson accepted the award at the Chamber’s 30th anniversary dinner at the Holiday Inn in Allentown Thursday, Sept. 26.
Founded in 1989, the Chamber has grown from 100 to 245 members with 22 of the founding members remaining.
In honor of the 30th anniversary celebration, four “founder awards” were created in addition to the annual Shining Star Award to acknowledge those members who have been active in their support since the founding of the Chamber.
In attendance to also present the Shining Star Award, President Hawkinson was honored to accept the Sustaining Partner Award on behalf of Kutztown University.
“It’s such an honor to be recognized,” Hawkinson said. “It’s been 30 years of partnership and the Chamber has provided so much support to the university, especially through our College of Business. The collaboration has benefited both KU and the Chamber and we look forward to at least another 30 years of working together.”
Truly stars of the evening, KU student work was highlighted with a documentary screening. Chamber executive director Lori B. Donofrio-Galley worked with Allison Girardi, a senior video production major at KU, to produce a documentary of founding members sharing their recollections of the Chamber’s early years. Post-production was by Matthew Heffner, a KU junior.
“That is a wonderful artifact for the Chamber to have as part of its history,” said Donofrio-Galley.
