BAMU the Bear Fever Bear set to debut

Oct 18, 2019

“Our dream has finally come to life!!!  Boyertown Alumni Marching Unit is excited to announce the presentation of “BAMU” the Bear!!!  Doug Davidheiser has been working on BAMU and has brought him to life!!   BAMU is sitting on top of an old bass drum from the alumni unit.  The trumpet BAMU is holding belongs to trumpet player, Alumni Unit’s President Tom McHugh.  BAMU is wearing his very on ARS Button, which is in honor of Arlen R. Saylor.  Jayne McHugh has been spear heading this project with Davidheiser for 2 years.  It was her dream to have an alumni marching unit bear join the Bear Fever of Boyertown.”

Bear Fever was initiated in 2003; 35 life-sized fiberglass bear sculptures decorated by area artists were introduced at Boyertown Senior High School’s Arts Expo in May 2005. The project has grown to include 75 bears. Visit www.bearfever.org for more details about the project.

“BAMU” is Doug Davidheiser’s 3rd Bear Fever bear. He created “Box,” the Body-Borneman Insurance bear on East Philadelphia Ave, Boyertown and “Yogi Bear-ra,” sponsored by the late Ken Ellis, installed at Bear Baseball Stadium, Boyertown, PA. Davidheiser’s bears showcase his willingness to go “all out” for the project—by first dismembering the sculptures and then rearranging the parts to create a brand new and unique form.
