Clear the Shelters: Fee Free Adoption Event at the Humane Society of Berks County

Reading, PA – Due to the upcoming renovations and temporary suspension of shelter operations, The Humane Society of Berks County and our sister shelter, the Humane League of Lancaster County, will be holding a “Clear the Shelters – Fee Free Adoption Event” on Friday, October 25 through Sunday, October 27, 2019.

Leann Quire, Director of Shelter Operations stated “As we prepare for an exciting chapter with the Humane Society of Berks County and our major renovation project, we want the animals currently in our care to find their forever homes.  Any animal who hasn’t been adopted by the end of the adoption weekend will be moved to our sister shelter, the Humane League of Lancaster County to go up for adoption there.”

Adopters wishing to save the life of any animal regardless of age, may do so during Clear the Shelters – Fee Free Adoption Event.  All potential adopters will be required to go through the regular adoption screening process.  Once the adopter is approved, the adoption fee is waived.  The adopted dogs will need to leave with a collar and leash, all adopted cats and critters will need to leave in a carrier.  Potential adopters can come with their own collars, leashes, carriers and supplies or they can purchase those items from the shelter.

All adopted animals will be spayed/neutered, received vaccinations, microchipped, a small supply of Science Diet Pet Food, and will come with Humane Pennsylvania’s (30) Thirty-Day Adoption Health Supplement.

This free adoption event provides families with the ability to welcome a new furry friend into their home without needing to pay the standard adoption fee. Throughout the event, families can view, select, and meet-and-greet with any adoptable animal they choose.
Adoption Hours:  Friday through Sunday 10 AM – 4 PM

To view the animals available for adoption, visit humanepa.org/adoption or meet the animal at the shelter, in-person, during scheduled operating hours. For more information about the fee free adoption event, please call 610-921-2348 or email: [email protected].
