Reading Public Library Names David Thun Campaign Chair of Annual Appeal

Oct 30, 2019

Reading, PA  – Reading Public Library announced Tuesday that local industrialist and philanthropist, David Thun, will again serve as the Campaign Chair of the institution’s Annual Appeal. According to Nancy Campbell, President of the library’s Board of Trustees, “We are very pleased that Mr. Thun has agreed to chair this important annual campaign for a second year. Libraries increasingly depend on private donations to supplement public funding and our annual appeal provides vital, unrestricted income to support our general operations. Mr. Thun’s efforts have brought new friends to our work and helped us to broaden the reach of our success story.”

The goal for the 2018 campaign is $35,000. Among other things, income from the library’s Annual Appeal will support salaries for library staff who bring books and movies to fourteen Reading senior centers, teach computer proficiency and resume building classes at city shelters, and offer STEM education to thousands of city youth at parks and recreation centers.

Campaign Chair, David Thun stated the following as one of his reasons for continuing in this leadership role, “Reading Public Library daily addresses issues of literacy and digital divides, assisting our city’s residents in becoming full participants in the social and economic life of our community.”
