Smeigh, Mondschein Named Alvernia Players of the Week

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 28, 2019) – Field Hockey freshman Makenzie Smeigh and Field Hockey junior Morgan Mondschein were named Alvernia Players of the Week for their performance during the week of October 21 – October 27, 2019.

Makenzie Smeigh earns her first Player of the Week honor after scoring two goals in a 1-1 week for Alvernia. Smeigh scored the second goal of the game for Alvernia in a near comeback against Arcadia on Wednesday. The goal was the first of the freshman’s career. Against Stevenson on Saturday, Smeigh scored the game-winning goal in the 36th minute in an important MAC Commonwealth win for the Golden Wolves.

Morgan Mondschein earns Alvernia Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after also scoring two goals for Alvernia in a 1-1 week. Mondschein scored Alvernia’s third goal of the game in a 4-3 loss to Arcadia on Wednesday. On Saturday against Stevenson, Mondschein tied the game at 1-1 with a goal in the 11th minute in a 2-1 win over the Mustangs.

Alvernis sits in a three-way tie for third in MAC Commonwealth standings. The Golden Wolves are tied at 3-3 with Widener and Arcadia. The Golden Wolves will host Widener on Wednesday at 7:00 PM in the MAC Commonwealth finale. They close out their regular season on Saturday, Nov. 2 with a non-conference game against DeSales.
