KU to Host Inaugural Indigenous Film Festival

KUTZTOWN, PA – A full day of film, food and fun is set for the inaugural Kutztown University Indigenous Film Festival, Wednesday, Nov. 6, in 183 McFarland Student Union. The event is free and open to the public.

The festival kicks off at 8:15 a.m. Several one-hour lectures and shorts will be screened followed by feature-length films: Mankiller, More Than a Word, and Warrior Women. Warrior Women will hold a post-film discussion led by a KU graduate student and Potawatomie Nation citizen.

Full Film Schedule

Snacks, drinks and baked goods will be available for purchase throughout the day, even if you are not staying for a screening. All proceeds benefit the Sovereign Bodies Institute. If you’d like to donate funds, individually packaged drinks or food, or baked goods for the sale, please contact Kahna Bull at [email protected].

If you can’t attend the film festival, you can still visit the Indigenous Makers display, curated and assembled by Morris and Rhonda York. On the second floor of the Rohrbach Library, the Indigenous Makers display can be seen until the close of the Fall 2019 semester. The display contains clothing, stickers, jewelry, art and a variety of books and films, written and created by contemporary Indigenous peoples. Multiple films are also available to KU students through the library website.
