KUTZTOWN, PA – 60 Kutztown University student artists will compete and create art that delivers a positive message at the first Sharadin Creative Royale at 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, at KU’s Sharadin Art Building.
The pieces will be assessed by community judges Ann Marie Hayes-Hawkinson, board member of the KU Arts Society, Karen Stanford, gallery director and curator at the Miller Gallery and Rhonda Wall, professional artist and faculty emeritus.
Student artists across multiple art majors will receive a kit of art supplies at 6 p.m. with a surprise prompt following at 6:30 p.m. The artists will have two hours to create a piece of art and hang it on the wall. There will also be a race to another area of miscellaneous media supplies chosen from faculty.
Winners across multiple categories will be announced at 8:30 p.m. There will also be presentations of the Miller Gallery Award, an Amos Lemon Burkhart award, #teamfunky, a Dick Blick award and Visual Arts program team prizes.
Supplies have been provided by Dick Blick in Allentown, the KU Campus Store and faculty members. Special thanks to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration, KUArts Society, KU Health Promotion, the President’s Roundtable on Alcohol and Other Drugs and the Amos Lemon Burkhart Foundation for sponsoring this event.
The resulting artwork will hang in the Ramp Gallery outside of 120 Sharadin through Friday, Nov. 22.
