Call for Artists, Frank Scott Memorial Art Show: The Art of Jazz

Berks Arts Council announces the 16th annual Frank Scott Memorial Art Show: The Art of Jazz. Founded during the 2005 Berks Jazz Fest, The Art of Jazz honors the legendary local jazz musician Frank Scott. The Art of Jazz exhibits annually as a prelude to the Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest. Submission is open to artwork in all media.

Celebrate Jazz. An open theme to express how jazz inspires and impacts art, music and the community through your vision.

The exhibition runs March 18, 2020 – April 16, 2020 in the Schmidt Gallery, 2nd Floor of the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, 201 Washington Street, Reading. It is on view in conjunction with the 30th annual Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest, which runs March 27-April 5, 2020.

Work must be hand delivered on March 12 – 13, 2020. Intake is in the Schmidt Gallery, 2nd Floor of the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts. Work should follow the exhibition theme “Celebrate Jazz.” All media are eligible for consideration. All work must be original and made within the past three years by the person submitting the work. Works previously submitted in The Art of Jazz will not be accepted. Art size may be limited to our ability to display. Work must be suitably mounted and ready to hang, including glass protection where appropriate. Please read prospectus for details.

The Artist’s Reception and Awards Presentation will be held on Sunday, April 5, between 12:30-2:00 p.m.

Three cash prizes will be awarded: $500 for first place, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place.

Honorable mentions may be awarded at the juror’s discretion.The Frank Scott Memorial Art Show: The Art of Jazz and the Frank Scott Memorial Award honor legendary local jazz musician Frank Scott and are made possible through the generous support of the JerLyn Foundation. These memorial events were founded during the 2005 Berks Jazz Fest by Berks Arts Council along with local businessman and artist Jerry Holleran.

The entry fee for Berks Arts Council Members is $35 for the first artwork and $5 each additional work up to a total of three entries. Entry fees are waived for high school student submissions. Cash, check, and major credit cards will be accepted.
