Berks History Center Concludes 150th Anniversary Celebrations with Two Free Events

The Berks History Center (BHC) invites you to celebrate its 150th Anniversary this week with two special events at the Berks History Center Museum, located at 940 Centre Ave. Reading, PA.

Please join us for Incorporation Day: BHC’s Birthday Bash on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 5:30pm-7:30pm followed by a special anniversary history program entitled From the Historical Society to the Berks History Center: 150 Years of Berks History,” on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 10:00am. Both programs are free to the general public.

Incorporated on December 13, 1869 as the Historical Society of Berks County, the BHC is one of the oldest organizations of its kind in Pennsylvania. For a century and a half the goal of the BHC has remained consistent; to preserve the history and heritage of Berks County and to inform, educate and inspire our community regarding that history. On Friday, December 13, 2019, the Berks History Center will commemorate this 150 year accomplishment on its birthday with the Incorporation Day event from 5:30pm-7:30pm.

Participants will enjoyrefreshments, proclamations by local political figures and community leaders and a casual happy hour with friends and supporters of the Berks History Center. During the event the Berks History Center will also make a special announcement.

The celebrations continue the following day on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 10:00am with the BHC’s monthly Second Saturday Program. Presented by BHC Trustee and local historian Barry Kauffman, the program will explore the history of the Berks History Center from its fledgling founding in 1869 as The Historical Society of Berks County to present day.

“The BHC is very proud to have served the citizens of Berks County by preserving and sharing its history for 150 years,” says Executive Director, Benjamin Neely. “It is a privilege to be entrusted with this mission and we invite our community to celebrate this milestone with us. Our goal is honor the founders of this organization and the generations of supporters who came after them by continuing to establish, maintain, and innovate our best practices for historic preservation and education into the future.”

The Berks History Center thanks the many businesses in our community who helped to make BHC’s 150th Anniversary celebrations possible through sponsorship support:
