Ewen, Thomas Named Alvernia Players of the Week

(Dec. 15, 2019) – Women’s Basketball junior Julia Ewen and Men’s Basketball sophomore Justin Thomas were named Alvernia Players of the Week for their performance during the week of December 9 – December 15.

Julia Ewen collected nine rebounds and had five points for the Golden Wolves in a 66-47 setback against #11 Messiah College. Ewen also added a steal and an assist in 18 minutes of action.

Justin Thomas earns his third Alvernia Player of the Week honor after scoring 36 points to lead Alvernia to a 69-64 win over Messiah College on Saturday. Thomas’s 36 points was a career-high for the sophomore. He also collected 11 rebounds to pick up his first double-double of the season. Thomas also had ten points on Wednesday night  in the second-half conclusion of a halted game against Immaculata. Thomas would total 19 points on the game over two nights.

Women’s Basketball returns to the court for a home contest against Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday night. Men’s Basketball heads south to Miami Beach for the HoopsMIA tournament. Alvernia will play Wesleyan on Dec. 17 and Case Western Reserve on Dec. 18.
