Diversity and inclusion help attract and retain talent. Learn what some local employers are doing to promote diversity and inclusion.

Diversity in the workplace means recognizing the unique characteristics that every employee brings to the job. Inclusion means making every employee feel welcomed and valued. Many employers have found that creating a diverse and inclusive workplace not only enables them to attract the talent that they need to be successful, it actually helps them to be more productive and resilient. Learn what five local employers are doing to foster a more diverse and inclusive workplace and what it has meant for their business.

Penske Transportation Solutions is the umbrella brand for Penske Truck Leasing, Penske Logistics, Epes Transport Systems and Penske Vehicle Services. A global company that provides innovative transportation, supply chain and technology solutions, Penske promotes an environment that embraces diversity and inclusion. Penske was recently recognized on the Women in Trucking organization’s 2019 list of “Top Companies for Women to Work for in Transportation.” Berks Fire and Water Restorations, in partnership with the Restoration Technical Institute, has developed programing to foster the growth and development of opportunities in the restoration and construction industry for women and professionals who have English as a second language.

Schlouch Inc. has launched significant efforts to create a diverse workforce. Schlouch excels in engaging and empowering its employees through an intentional program that develops and supports employee leadership at all levels. Reading Truck Body has established a comprehensive program to attract, train and support non-English speaking employees at its Reading plant.

Enersys has made diversity and inclusion core corporate commitments. The company has launched an EnerSys Women In Leadership initiative which will include networking and development events, community support activities, and a formalized mentoring plan to accomplish this goal and foster a vibrant and diverse workforce.
