Opportunity House Second Street Learning Center has been awarded 4 STARS (highest honor) by the Keystone STARS program.
Established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Keystone STARS (Standards, Training/Professional Development, Assistance, Resources, and Supports) is a quality rating system that promotes quality improvement in early learning and development programs and school-age child care. Early learning programs that participate in the Keystone STARS programs earn a quality rating from 1 to 4 STARS. The higher the STAR level, the higher the quality rating.
“The childcare staff at the Second Street Learning Center have worked extremely hard,” says Nancy Remy, Director/VP. “It has taken extensive training, thoroughness in setting up each classroom environment to STAR 4 specifications, and diligence in maintaining their classrooms and the entire Center. We are fortunate indeed to have such a wonderful child care team at our center.”
A child’s early education is important to future development and academic success. The 4 STAR designation is based on continuous quality improvements through set standards, training/professional development, assistance, resources, and support. The ratings that the center and staff receive are researched and linked to children’s preparedness for school and children’s social and emotional development.
Earning the 4 STAR designation is a huge achievement for our childcare and our organization, says Modesto Fiume, President. “But the real winners are the kids,” he says. “They’re getting a great start to a bright future.”
