Documentary on the Jewish Immigrant Experience Next in Film Series

Wyomissing, PA — The Jewish Federation of Reading announces the fourth film of the 2020 Reading Jewish Film Series, Carl Laemmle.  This documentary will be shown on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 7 pm at Fox Berkshire (800 Berkshire Blvd., Wyomissing).  The 2020 Reading Jewish Film Series is co-sponsored by the Rubin Educational Fund of the Jewish Federation of Reading and Fox Theatres.  Admission is $8 per film or $6 per film for JCC members.

This American documentary tells the life story of Carl Laemmle, the German-Jewish immigrant who founded Universal Pictures, battled monopolies, empowered women in film, made the ultimate anti-war film, invented the monster movie and enabled three hundred Jewish families to flee Nazi Germany.

The Shoah Foundation provided archival footage for the film, which was funded “in large part” through a grant from the Steven Spielberg-supported Righteous Persons Foundation.

Tickets can be purchased at the theater box office or kiosks, or online at www.foxshowtimes.com.  All seats are reserved heated recliners, and seat selection takes place at the time of purchase. Seating is limited and advanced purchases are recommended.

The Jewish Federation of Reading is the planning, coordinating and fundraising arm of the Jewish community. The Federation raises and allocates funds with The Jewish Federations of North America’s collective efforts in support of many vital national and international Jewish organizations.

Wyomissing, Pennsylvania-based Fox Theatres was founded in 1957 by Richard Fox and continues to be family-owned.  Today Fox Theatres operates theaters in Reading, Pa., and Ocean City, Md..
