Kutztown University to Celebrate V-Day with Performance of Vagina Monologues

KUTZTOWN, PA – The Kutztown University Women’s Center joins the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance (FMLA) student organization to present Eve Ensler’s iconic Vagina Monologues in honor of V-Day, the global movement to end violence against women. A standing tradition for the KU Women’s Center, this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Vagina Monologues performance and activism on camp us.

Two show dates are scheduled at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, and Friday, Feb. 21, in 218 McFarland Student Union. Tickets are available now both online and at the McFarland Student Union information desk. Ticket prices are $5 for attendees with Kutztown University ID and $10 for those without. All ticket proceeds will fund three charities aimed at ending gender-based violence: the Safe Berks campus advocate group, the Kutztown University Women’s Emergency Fund and Sovereign Bodies Institute.

The 2020 Vagina Monologues cast includes both students and staff, featuring: Brit Barlup, Kahna Bullivant, Maya Evans, Trisha Gillott, Angel Jarrett-Crenshaw, Grace Kutz, Giovanna La Spisa, Julia Laudadio, Christine Price, director of the KU Women’s Center and GLBTQ Center, and Jazmine Washing ton. Laudadio, a senior in the social work program at KU, also serves as the show’s director.

“My greatest wish for everyone – cast members, organizers, audience members – is that they leave the show with some immense value added to their life – inspiration, connection, healing, unity, a call to arms,” said Laudadio.

Monologues were written from vagina-based questions and interviews Ensler conducted with a spectrum of women. Ranging from hilarious to heartbreaking, the Vagina Monologues has adapted and grown over the years to be inclusive, topical and an ever-poignant must-see.

V-Day began in 1998 as a nonprofit 501c3 corporation designed to bring attention to and fund grassroots, national and international organizations and programs that work to stop violence against women and girls, transgender, gender fluid and gender non-conforming individuals subject to gender-based violence. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations.
