Eastern Pa. Organization Named to Top 300 List by American Battlefield Trust
The CWRT of Eastern Pa. has been serving residents in the counties of Berks, Lehigh, Northampton since 1978.

February 13, 2020 – The Civil War Round Table of Eastern Pennsylvania, Inc. (CWRT of Eastern Pa.) has been named among the Top 300 battlefield preservationists by the American Battlefield Trust, an organization dedicated to preserving our nation’s battlefields and educating the public about what happened in these places and why it matters today. The CWRT of Eastern Pa. is the only Round Table operating in the United States to be so recognized. The Top 300 list appeared in the Winter, 2019, edition of “Hallowed Ground,” the American Battlefield Trust’s member-0nly magazine.
Since 1985, the CWRT of Eastern Pa. has tapped in to the power of innovative matching grants to exponentially grow the funds it donates each year to battlefield preservation. In 2019, its contributions of $5,000 were increased by matching grants to become $86,725; these funds will be used to preserve 576 acres of Civil War battlefields.
“Each year, The Civil War Round Table of Eastern Pa. contributes its membership dues, raffle proceedings and member bequeaths and other donations to battlefield preservation organizations, thus helping to ensure that people never forget the sacrifices made by the citizen soldiers who fought there. We are proud to be counted among the Battlefield Trust’s Top 300 and invite community members to join us as continue our work to preserve our nation’s history, said Barry Arnold, Brigade Commander, Civil War Round Table of Eastern Pa.

Sponsored lectures and members-only field trips offer opportunities to learn about the character, causes and context of Civil War that both long-term enthusiasts and those just beginning down the path of discovery can enjoy.
Preservation comes in the form of financial support and hands-on preservation events. Monthly lectures, held at the Holiday Inn Lehigh Valley in Breinigsville, Pa. and hosted the first Tuesday of each month between September and June, cover a wide range of themes. Past speakers include leading authorities on battle campaigns and battlefields, academics and writers who use their training to investigate unknown or unremembered events, fighting units, and individuals, and impersonators of Civil War figures. Membership is open to all; non-member walk-ins for monthly lectures are always welcome.
