The Berks County Earth Day Committee will host the 50th Anniversary event in Reading, PA this April to commemorate the first Earth Day Celebration in 1970. The committee is passionate about educating residents of Berks County on environmental awareness and the challenges we face locally, nationally and globally. Topics of interest will include Energy Efficiency, Land and Water Conservation & Usage, Environmental & Social justice, Climate Change and more!
The family friendly event is free to the public and will be held rain or shine. Guests can enjoy a day of education and activities suitable for all ages. There will be educational lectures and demonstrations, artisan vendors, local food, children’s activities, live music, entertainment, art installations and more!
The first official National Earth Day originates back 50 years ago in 1970, with the help of Senator Gaylord Nelson. It was also the year when President Nixon signed into law the Clean Air Act. Earth Day is nationally observed on April 22. Since 1989, the BCEDC has brought the celebration of Earth Day to Berks County, in partnership with the City of Reading and the Reading Beautification program.
After a brief event hiatus, the committee is proud to announce the 2020 event is back! Mark your Calendar! Kevin Lugo of the City of Reading and a reinvigorated group of volunteers are eager to share this event with the residents of Berks County. We hope to raise concerns about the impact our daily decisions make in our personal lives, our professional / business work environments, as well as in our political space. The question each of us needs to consider is: How can we live in a more sustainable way that will preserve our planet NOW and for the generations of the FUTURE?
Sponsorship opportunities are still available! To volunteer, participate or for more information please contact us or visit our website www.earthdayberks.org.
