New York Times and Internationally best-selling author Jenna Blum comes to the Sinking Spring Public Library in March as part of the Literatour Berks Program for a conversation about her latest novel “The Lost Family.” In the book, Blum creates a vivid portrait of marriage, family, and the haunting grief of World War II in a story that spans a generation from the 1960s to the 1980s.

Of “The Lost Family,” Publishers Weekly says it’s the “perfect encapsulation of the changing times and turbulence of mid-and late-20th century America,” and the Library Journal calls it “exquisitely crafted and compassionate.”

In a guest post on BookClubGirl, Blum recounts how she came to write the story. “In the 1990s, I had the great privilege of interviewing Holocaust survivors for the Steven Spielberg ‘Survivors of the Shoah’ Foundation. All the survivors’ testimonies are imprinted indelibly on me, and one in particular inspired ‘The Lost Family.’ (‘The Lost Family’ is) about what I saw in my survivors: their tenacious life force, their stubborn, permanent hope.”

Blum has an M.A. in Creative Writing from Boston University and is a professional public speaker, traveling nationally and internationally to speak at universities, libraries, events, and book clubs. Copies of “The Lost Family” will be available for sale on site thanks to Reads & Company Bookshop, and Blum will sign books after the event.

The public is invited to attend this free program at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 2 at the Sinking Spring Public Library, but registration is required. To register, please visit or call the Sinking Spring Public Library at 610-678-4311.
