Feb 28, 2020

Reading, PA – Albright College will host a free lecture and reception on artist Anne Buckwalter’s collection “Repeating X” on Thursday, March 12 in the college’s Center for the Arts. The artist’s lecture will be in Klein Lecture Hall at 4 p.m., and the closing reception will be in the Freedman Gallery at 5 p.m.

Anne Buckwalter utilizes her Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry to explore definitions and disruptions of gender-related expectations. Incorporating folk art traditions from Amish quilt patterns and Vorschriften, writing exercises, Buckwalter intersects convention with contemporary issues of feminine identity and sexuality.

According to her website, Buckwalter has been an artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Hewnoaks Artist Colony, and the Vermont Studio Center. She was the recipient of a Joan Mitchell Foundation Emerging Artist Grant in 2016. Her work has been featured in New American Paintings, Create Magazine, and The Jealous Curator, and exhibited in Boston, Montréal, Toronto, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and New York, among other cities.
