Penn State Health temporarily closing or consolidating select patient sites

Mar 22, 2020

HERSHEY, PA – In response to the evolving Coronavirus pandemic, Penn State Health is consolidating a number of its physician practices and Penn State Health St. Joseph outpatient sites across the region and plans to close others until further notice.

In many cases, patients will be redirected to other sites, and staff are contacting those who are affected. Physicians and staff at closed or consolidated sites are being redeployed to other locations, with some physicians serving to provide remote consultation for patients with respiratory and other symptoms through the Penn State Health OnDemand telehealth platform.

A significant number of patients have begun to cancel regular check-ups and other scheduled appointments at many of these Penn State Health sites. This decrease in patient volume, combined with a desire to preserve medical supplies for an anticipated increase in patients with respiratory symptoms that could be related to COVID-19, are among the reasons for the temporary consolidations.

Details on consolidations and other operational changes affecting Berks County can be found here.
