Spring Senior Student-Athlete Spotlight – Brooke Yerger

A two-sport athlete and president of two Student Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC), Brooke Yerger has been very active both on and off the playing field at Albright. Yerger began her collegiate career at Salisbury University where she played one season of softball for the Sea Gulls. She had a breakout season by ranking third on the team with a .381 batting average, and tallying 32 hits, 18 RBIs, six doubles, and six stolen bases. Yerger transferred to Albright before her sophomore season and became one of the most consistent hitters on the team. Her career-high batting average of .385 helped propel her to All-MAC Commonwealth second team honors in her junior year. Brooke also started all 67 softball games she appeared in at Albright over three seasons. She was also a two-year member of the Albright field hockey team, and served as the president for the Albright and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) SAAC committees. Brooke’s father, Randy, is the associate head coach/defensive coordinator on the Albright football team, and mother Kristin is the head cross country coach at Albright.

What is your favorite sports memory at Albright?
“Being able to play two sports…both the field hockey and softball teams gave me so many great memories and great friends. I’ve also been blessed to play my collegiate career surrounded by my family.”

What are your post-graduate plans?
“I hope to get my master’s degree in Psychology, while being a graduate assistant coach.”

What is one thing that you would like to say to current Albright softball underclassmen/future Albright softball student-athletes?
“Life isn’t fair and you are going to fail often, but you can’t let that make you afraid of taking risks. You don’t HAVE to, you GET to. Playing a sport is a privilege and sacrifice, dedication, and humility will take you far if you let it.”

Why did you chose Albright/Favorite part about Albright?
“I chose Albright because it is my second home. My family is here, literally and figuratively. It gave me so many opportunities, and allowed me to meet, grow with, and become lifelong friends with a lot of awesome people.”
