Academic World Quest: Oley ‘Blue’ wins again!

The Oley Valley High School Blue Team won the Academic World Quest local competition held on March 10 at the Beaver Community Center on the Penn State Berks campus. This is the second straight year that the Oley Blue Team has won the competition. Team members this year were Wyatt Kerper, Casey Lang, Amy Chen and Daniel Hoffman.

Second place winner was the Twin Valley Green team, again a repeat placement. Team members were Annabella Acinapura, Steven Armstrong, Wesley Hannum and Leah Karwic. The Oley Valley White team came in third place. Amelia Fisher, Leah Macomber, Ryan Sheetz and Myrra Small were team members. Mr. John Small was the coach for the Oley teams, and Ms. Christina Donatelli was the advisor for the Twin Valley team.

This annual competition is a team effort to answer the most questions in 10 categories about world affairs. World Affairs Council of America (the national office) sends a study guide in the fall that gives references for the students to review. All questions are taken from these references.

Normally the first-place team travels to Washington, D.C., to compete at the national level, but because of the coronavirus pandemic, this event has been canceled.

The Oley Blue Team placed fifth nationally last year.
