Kutztown University’s Office of Admissions is proud to announce a new member to its team. Maria Tinoco joins KU as the new assistant director for Hispanic/Latino recruitment. Tinoco will be recruiting in Pennsylvania as well as New York and New Jersey.

Tinoco is a returning alumna with a strong background in recruitment. She has more than 10 years of relevant experience in admissions with Pennsylvania State University and is excited to return to her alma mater in a professional capacity. Tinoco received her Bachelor of Science in psychology from Kutztown University in 2008 and has worked as an English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor for the Double-A affiliated baseball team of the Philadelphia Phillies since 2010.

“We’re incredibly excited to welcome Maria to our team. She has tremendous experience in admissions and has established herself as a strong advocate of the Hispanic/Latino community. We look forward to the partnerships she will develop with school counselors and with community-based organizations, particularly throughout Berks and Lehigh counties,” said Krista Evans, director of Admissions.

Tinoco is a fluent Spanish speaker with two children. She has been a guest speaker at multiple colleges and conference forums across Pennsylvania and is an impassioned advocate for higher education opportunities for minority students, serving on Penn State Berks’ campus Commission for Women Group, Campus Inclusion Advocates and Intercultural Diversity Inventory Development Plan. She also holds ESL English Forward and EQ-i Emotional Intelligence certifications.

“I have always had KU close to my heart. Throughout the years, I have returned to campus for homecoming and various professional events. Every time I visit, there is something new and wonderful happening on campus. I am excited to add a new chapter to my KU story,” Tinoco said. “My passion lies in providing higher education access to the Hispanic/Latino community. With this new position, it will be my core focus, allowing me to be focused and committed in serving this specific population of students and their families.”
