Hospitals should ‘not have to jump through hoops’ to save lives during coronavirus pandemic.

Pennsylvania Auditor General Eugene DePasquale joined with other state fiscal watchdogs to call on ventilator manufacturers to immediately release repair manuals for their life-sustaining equipment.

“Several major ventilator manufacturers have released repair manuals but it’s time for the rest to do so,” DePasquale said. “Hospitals should not have to jump through hoops to keep this important life-saving equipment running during the coronavirus crisis – too many lives are at stake.”

In calling for the release of repair information, DePasquale joined a coalition of fiscal officers that includes Pennsylvania Treasurer Joe Torsella, Delaware Treasurer Colleen Davis, Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs, Massachusetts Treasurer and Receiver General Deborah Goldberg, Maryland Treasurer Nancy Kopp, Rhode Island Treasurer General Seth Magaziner, West Virginia State Auditor John “JB” McCuskey, and Colorado Treasurer Dave Young.

“As the coronavirus death toll in the U.S. has now surpassed 50,000, we cannot afford to have a single ventilator on the sidelines awaiting repairs,” DePasquale added. “I appreciate the cooperation of manufacturers that have released the needed information and urge the others to do so immediately.”
