Berks County Enlists the Support of PA Dept. of Health and CDC to Assist Berks Heim

Reading, PA — The Berks County Commissioners announced Wednesday that they are partnering with the PA Department of Health and the CDC to provide a top to bottom assessment and potential recommendations for the Berks Heim. The PA National Guard will also be assisting with testing of all Berks Heim Staff. The testing of residents will also occur with
their approval and or the approval of the resident’s family member or responsible party.

Training, Consultation and Testing are next

The team will be starting at the Berks Heim today, Thursday, May 21, 2020 and will include; Staff from PA Dept. of Health, Chris Chamberlain HAP-EC HCC, LTCOL, Dr. John Peacock PA National Guard, a small group from the CDC that have been contracted by the PA DOH to provide just-in-time training.

According to the Pennsylvania PA Dept. of Health and CDC, teams are providing on-site assistance for long-term care facilities using their infection prevention and control expertise. The testing will take place next week led by the PA National Guard.

“This assistance is available to nursing homes and long-term care facilities throughout the Commonwealth and Berks County is taking advantage of this support.” Stated, Commissioner Christian Leinbach. “We need to do everything we can to protect our residents and our staff.”
