The Latest Berks Heim Resident & Staff Test Results

Reading, PA — Berks County recently provided COVID-19 testing for all Berks Heim staff and all residents that approved being tested. The testing was provided through the PA Dept. of Health and administered by personnel from the PA National Guard. The tests were administered between Thursday 5/28 and Saturday 5/30.

Test Results have been received

Residents:   266 test results received, (34 positives but asymptomatic). 10 residents/responsible party refused testing.  31 residents not tested due to prior positive status.

Staff:  484 staff eligible for testing; 403 results received with 10 positive staff results. 30 staff not available for testing due to vacation time off or LOA.  Retesting for second round is under review, possibly occurring next Monday of staff who did not previously test positive.  

Berks County received a favorable review of the facility on May 21, 2020 On May 21st representatives of the Hospital & Healthcare Assoc. of PA, the CDC and the PA National Guard visited the Berks Heim to evaluate the overall operations and make recommendations for possible improvement. Their comments to Heim management indicated that the Berks Heim is doing a very good job. They also noted that a formal report will follow. Berks County has not yet received the formal report. The response will be made public once it is received.
