Berks County hires Public Relations Officer to lead communication efforts

Reading, PA — As Berks County continues to embrace the “New Normal” posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, county officials announced Thursday that they have hired Stephanie Weaver to serve as the county’s first Public Relations Officer. Weaver will help lead the county’s internal and external communications, providing vital information to employees and the public about county services, events and procedures to ensure everyone in the
community is well-informed. Her first day will be June 24.

“Throughout this global health crisis, we have seen the importance of clear, consistent communication,” Berks County Commissioner Christian Y. Leinbach said. “Stephanie will fulfill a valuable role to ensure our residents are aware of the latest developments as we continue our efforts to safely reopen Berks County.”

County officials believe there is an even greater need now to bridge the communication gap that often forms in times of crisis. Weaver will provide important COVID-19 developments and updates through programs like the “Stop the Spread” campaign, online meetings and managing the county’s social media and website pages. Weaver will also assist with the planning, marketing and publicizing of events, projects and outreach programs for a variety of county departments, as well as internal communications for county employees.

“I’m excited to work on behalf of Berks County residents through this new opportunity,” Weaver said. “I firmly believe an open flow of communication is critical to maintain a trusted and transparent relationship between the government and the community.” Weaver most recently worked as the Communications Manager for the Berks County Bar Association and was a reporter for the Reading Eagle for seven years.
