Reading, PA – Mayor Eddie Moran is happy to announce the official launch of Wacky Water Wednesday. Every Wednesday, starting today through September 2nd, the Reading Area Water Authority with assistance from the City of Reading Fire, Police, and Public Works Departments, and the Reading Recreation Commission will open up fire hydrants throughout the City. A sprinkler device will be installed on hydrants.
The Reading Recreation Commission proposed this initiative as a way to engage with the community in a fun way. Mayor Moran immediately loved the idea. “I have beautiful memories of my childhood in New York City playing outside with other kids by the fire hydrants. I am glad we get to do this in Reading and help build our young residents’ own memories,” the Mayor said. These events are geared to our youth as a way to provide relief from the summer heat and safely restore our sense of community. To avoid large gatherings, Wacky Water Wednesday locations will be a surprise every week, only shared discretely with nearby neighbors.
To accommodate proper space for the events, some streets will be closed. Traffic will be directed accordingly.
Turning fire hydrants throughout the City into mini-spray parks for kids to enjoy is one way the Administration of Mayor Moran will continue to engage the community in these unprecedented times. The Mayor and some other officials may pop in for a little bit of water fun.
