Tower Health Announces Board of Directors Changes

Tower Health announces the following updates to its Board of Directors. The Tower Health Board of Directors is composed of dedicated volunteers who provide community oversight to Tower Health as it fulfills its mission to provide high-quality, cost-effective healthcare for the communities it serves. 

New and Returning Board Members

Jim Boscov, Angel Helm, and William Thornton, Jr. have joined the Board effective July 1, 2020.

Mr. Boscov is a retail business executive and active in the community. He serves or has served on the Boards of Directors at the United Way of Berks County, South Mountain YMCA, Alvernia University, Reading Symphony Orchestra, Albright College Center for Excellence in Local Government, Caron Foundation and Reading Hospital Foundation. He is a graduate of Tufts University.

Ms. Helm is a retired investment banking and finance executive with 29 years of experience in bond financing transactions for healthcare, higher education, and municipal and corporate clients. In her retirement she served as the Interim Chief Executive Officer for Olivet Boys and Girls Club and Safe Berks. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Federal Home Loan Bank – Pittsburgh, and Caron Treatment Centers. Ms. Helm received her MBA from Saint Joseph’s University and her bachelor’s degree in economics from Gettysburg College.

Mr. Thornton is Co-Chair of the Litigation Department at Stevens & Lee and an experienced securities and commercial litigator. He is currently a member of the Caron Foundation Board of Trustees. He has previously served as a Board Member of the Catholic Social Agency (now Catholic Charities) of the Diocese of Allentown, St. Thomas More Society, and has been a Big Brother with Big Brother and Big Sisters of Berks County. He is a graduate of Villanova University School of Law and Dickinson College.

In July of 2019, Tower Health welcomed to its Board John Fry, President of Drexel University; Sue Perrotty, Retired Executive; and Tod Auman, local business owner and former investment manager.

Mr. Fry is the President of Drexel University. Prior to his appointment at Drexel he served as President at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster. He is known for visionary and innovative leadership that benefits the university as well as the communities and organizations with which he works. During his tenure at Drexel University and Franklin & Marshall College, he helped redevelop multiple neighborhoods with the addition of retail space, parks, and residential buildings. He serves or has served on the boards of Lafayette College, the Agnes Irwin School, Andalusia Foundation, Delaware Investments, Community Health Systems, the Wistar Institute, Advanced Functional Fabrics of America, and the Kresge Foundation. He also served two years as chairman of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.

Ms. Perrotty, a retired bank executive, is a distinguished Berks County volunteer who recently completed her term as Chair of the Berks County Community Foundation’s Board. She previously served as a member of Our City Reading, and as co-chairwoman of the Olivet Boys & Girls Club’s Capital campaign. Ms. Perrotty has also been recognized as an Outstanding Philanthropist by the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Berks Regional Chapter. She co-chaired Albright College’s Crossing Boundaries campaign, which raised more than $43 million. Ms. Perrotty is an advocate for mentoring young professionals, helping them to thrive in their professional careers.

Tod Auman was born and raised in Berks County and owns and operates a local business. He previously served as a member of the Reading Hospital, Reading Health and Tower Health Boards and currently serves as Vice Chair on the Board of Directors of the GoggleWorks. He received his MBA from the University of Notre Dame and his undergraduate degree from Denison University. 

Additional directors who continue their service to Tower Health include C. Thomas Work, Stevens & Lee; Meg Mueller, Fulton Financial Corporation; Brent Wagner, MD, Executive Director of the American Board of Radiology; Barbara Arner, a retired executive and restaurant owner; Chris Kraras, President and CEO, White Star Tours; and Karen Rightmire, Executive Director, Wyomissing Foundation. Clint Matthews also serves on the Board ex officio.

Board Leadership

  1. Thomas Work and Meg Mueller have been reelected as Tower Health Board Chair and Vice Chair, respectively. Tod Auman was appointed Chair Investment Committee and Ms. Mueller Chair of the Finance Committee, both effective July 1, 2020.

Mr. Work is Co-Chair of Stevens & Lee’s Estates and Trusts Practice Group. He focuses on estate and tax planning, fiduciary administration, and litigation of fiduciary matters. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and a member of his local, state, and national bar associations. Mr. Work has been a driving force in the creation and growth of Tower Health and previously served as Chairman of the Reading Hospital Board from 2009 to 2013. He is a member of the Boards of the Reading Hospital Foundation and Alvernia University. He is a graduate of Duke University School of Law and received his bachelor’s degree from Dickinson College.

Ms. Mueller is Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Commercial Banking at Fulton Financial Corporation (FFC). Her previous roles at FFC include Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer, Senior Vice President of Credit Administration and Correspondent Banking Services, and Senior Vice President and Correspondent Banker. Ms. Mueller is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School and received her bachelor’s degree in Economics and French from Gettysburg College.
