Unemployment Compensation Courtesy Phones Disabled at PA CareerLink® Berks County

READING, PA  – PA CareerLink® Berks County reopened for in-person appointments on Monday, July 13, but the Unemployment Compensation Courtesy Phones will remain shut down at all PA CareerLink® sites for public health and safety reasons until further notice. These steps are being taken to follow COVID-19 social distancing and mitigation guidelines to protect the health and safety of our customers and staff. All locally-provided PA CareerLink® services will continue to be offered virtually and now also by appointment only.

o For regular Unemployment Compensation (UC) questions:

• Email [email protected]. Please include your full name as it appears on your claim, last 4 digits of your social security #, email address, phone # and a brief explanation of the problem.

• Try calling 1-888-313-7284 Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

• Register for UC’s LiveChat at https://www.uc.pa.gov/Chat/index.aspx

o For Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) questions:

• Email [email protected]. Please include your full name as it appears on your claim, last 4 digits of your social security #, email address, phone # and a brief explanation of the problem.

“We understand that claimants have been experiencing tremendous difficulty over the past four months when trying to reach staff from Unemployment Compensation and that not having a courtesy phone at the PA CareerLink® may be disappointing to claimants who have relied on these courtesy phones in the past,” said Dan Fogarty, Chief Operating Officer of the Berks County Workforce Development Board (WDB). “The purpose of this announcement is to eliminate additional frustration when a claimant arrives at the PA CareerLink, only to learn that the UC courtesy phone is not available.”

PA CareerLink® Berks County is now offering onsite services by appointment only and will continue offering remote services. Services include career exploration, job search assistance, resume development, access to training funds for qualifying customers, GED test prep, and assistance for targeted jobseeker populations including veterans, young adults, in-school youth, persons with disabilities, re-entrants and dislocated workers.
