What would it take to bring passenger rail service back to Reading?

By Berks Alliance

Jul 16, 2020

It has been nearly 40 years since the last passenger train left Reading.  What would it take to bring them back?

The Berks Alliance has commissioned a study to explore what it would take to restore passenger rail service to Berks County.  Join us for a virtual community forum on July 29th from 11:30 to 1.  Our consultants, Transportation Economics and Management Systems (TEMS) will present their report.

What will it cost to restore passenger service?  Can the rail corridor handle both freight and passenger trains?  What could a ticket cost?  How long would it take to get to Philadelphia?  Where could the trains stop?  What impact with restoring passenger trains have on our economy, on jobs, on property values?  Will it be possible to board a train in Berks County and go all the way to New York or Washington, DC?  Find out the answers to these and other questions by joining us on July 29th.
