The Gilmore | Henne Community Fund of Berks County Community Foundation has awarded $3,250 in grants to repair and purchase playground equipment, support playground programming, and maintain local parks.
Grant recipients, award amounts, and projects:
- Exeter Community Education Foundation, $1,000 to replace broken equipment at the Jacksonwald Elementary School playground.
- Exeter Community Education Foundation, $1,000 to add a 16-foot balance beam at the Owatin Creek Elementary School playground.
- Barrio Alegria, $1,000 to engage neighbors in creating arts programming for the Reading Iron Playground at Gilson Alley and Laurel Street. The goal is to build leadership and empowerment among neighbors, improve perceptions of the playground, and plan for ways to sustain community engagement.
- Bernville Borough, $250 to allow the borough Shade Tree Commission to purchase wheelbarrows for volunteers to use during park maintenance efforts.
The Gilmore | Henne Community Fund supports recreational park programs, improvements and maintenance at Berks County parks.
Wilson High graduates and NFL players John Gilmore and Chad Henne established the fund in 2010 to improve the community and the lives of children through the revitalization of parks and recreational facilities.
