Come meet ALICE: A Berks Alliance Community Forum

Jul 29, 2020

The Monthly Berks Alliance Community Forums will return with a virtual program on Thursday August 20 at 11:30.

So who or what is ALICE?  ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.  Prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic, 24% of working adults in Pennsylvania earn wages above the official poverty level but are struggling to pay basic  household expenses.  59% of the jobs in Pennsylvania pay less than $20 an hour and with work schedules being affected by the epidemic, the hours that people are working has declined.  36% of the ALICE households in Pennsylvania don’t have access to broadband Internet, as service that has become even more essential as schools have moved to online education.  United Ways across the Commonwealth are focusing their efforts and their resources on this at-risk population.

The Berks County United Way and their state partners will talk about the ALICE project, what it means for Berks County and what’s working to address the challenges of these Pennsylvania workers.
