Barta Will Resume Collecting Fares On Monday, August 10, 2020

BARTA announced that it will resume collecting fares on all BARTA bus routes starting Monday, August 10, 2020. BARTA suspended collecting fares on March 23, 2020 and implemented a Rear Door Entry policy to help with social distancing from the driver. BARTA has now installed plastic shield barriers at the driver area inside the bus for protection when the customers board and pay when riding the bus. Starting August 10th, BARTA riders will be able to board the bus from the front door and exit from the rear door, creating a one-way flow to help with social distancing. Customers in wheelchairs or who have mobility needs can enter and exit through the front door where the wheelchair ramp and kneeler are located.

BARTA requests that customers continue to practice social distancing when riding the bus, trying to keep a distance between customers when riding. Customers and drivers are still required to wear a mask at all times when riding or on BARTA property.

BARTA’s Executive Director, Dave Kilmer shared, “BARTA greatly appreciates everyone’s cooperation during this pandemic and using our services.”

Starting Monday, August 3, 2020, the BARTA Transportation Center (BTC) pass sales customer service window will begin selling BARTA passes again. Sales hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

BARTA installed two hand sanitizer stations on each bus for customers to use. Last week, BARTA buses were deep cleaned using a two-step fogging process. The first step disinfects the surfaces and the second step places a protective coating which lasts for three months. This is the second time the buses were deep cleaned since the pandemic began. This deep cleaning application is above the normal cleaning and sanitizing that BARTA staff performs daily.

BARTA continues to operate a Saturday schedule on weekdays and Saturdays and the normal service on Sundays. The Route 2/Fairgrounds Square Market bus route continues to operate the normal schedule on Fridays and Saturdays only. The Route 22 – Lyon Station/East Penn- Deka bus route which normally does not operate on Saturdays will continue its normal weekday schedule.
