Editor’s Update: The start of the Berks Boys Tennis Championships will be pushed back 1 day because of rain. Friday start times will now start the same time on Saturday. Semi’s and Finals originally scheduled for Saturday will now be played Sunday morning. As scheduled, All play will be at Exeter. 

Berks County Tennis Association has announced that the Boys Berks County Tennis Championships will take place August 7th and 8th, 2020. The event will be for boys tennis players that had their high school season cancelled this past spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event is a Non-BCIAA, Non-PIAA event that is sanctioned by the Berks County Tennis Association, similar to what baseball has been doing in Berks County with their high school baseball events at First Energy Stadium.

The event is open to all boys tennis players that would have played varsity tennis this past spring grades 9-12 in the county. The event will not identify the players by their schools affilation.

Safety protocol will follow the same protocol that BCTA used for its highly successful Comeback Classic Series this summer, making a safe return to the courts in Berks. The event will take place in Exeter.

SAFETY PROTOCOLS:

*All Players will have temperature checked and must have parent signed waiver form.

*Social distancing will be in effect with limited spectators allowed

*Masks must be worn OFF court by players when checking in and masks removed on court.

Players:

The event will feature all the top boys players in berks county including defending County Champion

James Pottieger from Wyomissing, Jay Schreck (Wyomissing), Jackson Bonds (Twin Valley), Virage Patel (Wilson) Alex Chen (Exeter), Ethan Moyer (Conrad Weiser) and the top freshmen that would have played this spring including Teddy Snyder (Exeter), Will Hill (Conrad Weiser),  Ben Winkler (Wilson).

Format:

TWO singles flights: Flight 1 and Flight 2. Flight 1 will feature #1,2,3 players, Flight 2 will feature flight 4,5,6, players  as well as 2 doubles filights.

Round of 32 and Round of 16 matches for Flight 1 and Flight 2 are Friday morning, followed by Quarterfinal Singles and doubles matches Friday evening. Singles and Doubles Semi-Finals and finals will conclude Saturday morning.

The event is run by Ryan Knarr (BCTA President) and Ryan Cuevas (BCTA awards chair). The duo are the annual tournament directors for the regular boys high school county tournament each spring and fall.
