“Best Places to Work 2020”

Beans celebrates second consecutive win after tackling the challenges of the pandemic with a “Better Together” approach

Doylestown, Pa. – Fred Beans Automotive Group was again named among the top places to work in the Greater Philadelphia Region. The Doylestown-based company is one of only seven “extra-large” organizations, those with 500 or more employees, to make the 2020 Best Places to Work list.

Beth Beans Gilbert, Fred Beans Automotive Group vice president, thanked employees for their “commitment each day to make it Better at Beans even when many of us were unable to be physically together because of the pandemic.” She said that made this year’s recognition “special and should fill us all with great optimism about our future.”

The automotive group responded quickly to the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic with new protocols in place to protect its essential employees and customers in need of service and repairs. The leadership team further refined protocols to safely welcome back employees into offices and showrooms once state restrictions eased. Through the entire period, Beans Gilbert kept all employees informed through weekly updates, which also helped maintain connections and essentially keep the Beans team intact.

“We have long said we are ‘Better Together,’ so it was important we continued to emphasize that even when we all couldn’t be together in the spring,” said Beans Gilbert. “Our employees responded by sharing ideas to help us adapt, adjusting to new practices and taking on new responsibilities to keep themselves and others safe. And, they took time to participate in the Best Places to Work survey in the thick of all this change. They are the reason we are on this year’s Best Places to Work list.”

The Best Places to Work list is compiled annually in the Greater Philadelphia region by the Philadelphia Business Journal in partnership with Quantum Workplace, a provider of employee engagement software. Winners are determined solely by employee feedback collected through an independent survey administered by Quantum Workplace. Questions cover a range of topics, including work environment, support of personal growth and benefits.

Fred Beans, company founder and president, was delighted with the second recognition. “Our people always are behind our successes,” said Beans. “We hope that this award helps us continue to attract great talent as we work to be even Better at Beans.”

Scoring a spot on the 2020 Best Places to Work list was not the only accolade Beans received during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fred Beans Nissan of Doylestown received the Nissan Award of Excellence for the fifth consecutive year, and Fred Beans Ford of Boyertown again received the Ford President’s Award.

The Nissan Award of Excellence is the highest award presented to dealers by Nissan North America. It recognizes Nissan’s top dealers across the nation who provide customers with an “outstanding ownership experience, from the showroom through every aspect of the dealership.” The President’s Award from Ford recognizes those dealerships that have excelled in automotive retailing by providing exceptional customer service and satisfaction.

Fred Beans Automotive Group is one of the largest, privately owned automotive groups in Pennsylvania. The company employs nearly 2,000 individuals, the majority of whom are in southeastern Pennsylvania, where the auto group has its highest concentration of dealerships. The company is family-owned and –operated, with Fred Beans at the helm after more than 50 years in business.
