Reading Police

Reading, PA – Beginning Tuesday, September 1, 2020, Reading Police Department officers will begin wearing body-worn cameras while on patrol. All patrol officers will wear the camera near the center of their chest, making it visible on their outermost layer of clothing. The over 100 cameras have the ability to capture video and audio, which will be stored on a cloud drive and will be overseen by the Evidence Unit of RPD.

“I am pleased that body-worn cameras are now part of the Reading Police Department as it will benefit all residents and visitors of Reading,” Mayor Moran said. “Reading joins Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and other municipalities that already use this technology. The cameras will strengthen police accountability, increase stakeholders’ confidence in the law, and will serve as a valuable investigative resource. This is a positive step in the right direction to continue building a better Reading together.”

The body-worn cameras will be a valuable tool for our department and our City. With this initiative, Reading officers are extra equipped to continue providing good police service to the City of Reading.
