READING, PA – The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) Board of Directors recognized Mr. Dan Fogarty as the 2020 recipient of the BCIU Outstanding Community Partner Award at their September 17, 2020 Board meeting. Mr. Dan Fogarty is the Director of Workforce Development and Chief Operating Officer for the Berks County Workforce Development Board. This is the sixth year the award has been conferred by the Berks County Intermediate Unit, and the BCIU will select one outstanding community partner annually. Some of the criteria in the selection of the recipient includes the following:
- Demonstrates an understanding of the importance and role of the BCIU.
- Advocates in the community for the BCIU and the students / constituents served.
- Volunteers time and talent to support the BCIU – this could be by attending BCIU events, volunteering in classrooms, collaborating with staff members, etc.
- Must be someone outside the BCIU (non-employee) who believes strongly in educational services and has demonstrated that commitment through their actions over time.
- Must be a recognized leader in their respective field and a member of the Berks County community.
Without question, Mr. Fogarty fulfills all of the above criteria, and more. Mr. Fogarty’s collaboration, support, and guidance to the BCIU and Berks County schools is invaluable. He offers important insight and perspective which help to move major initiatives forward successfully as an active participant in meetings, planning committees, and programs. Mr. Fogarty serves as an original and current steering committee member of the Berks County Pathways Alliance / Career Ready Berks and acts as a key liaison between business and education communities. His efforts to provide information, resources, and job training to the more than 70,000 students in Berks County have been vital to expand opportunities and build experiences for our students. His collaborative work helps to shape the future of our local workforce and ensure we have more informed students, a more skilled workforce, and a brighter future for the Greater Reading Area and Berks County community.
