Adanna Akujuo, MD, joins Tower Health Medical Group Cardiothoracic Surgery

West Reading, PA.,Tower Health is pleased to announce that Adanna Akujuo, MD, has joined Tower Health Medical Group Cardiothoracic Surgery –  Dr. Akujuo is an accomplished structural heart surgeon proficient in valvular and aortic surgery with an expertise in minimally invasive valvular surgery and complex mitral valve repair.  

“Dr. Akujuo is an extremely skilled physician and adding her to the Tower Health team expands on the services we can provide to our patients and communities,” said Christine McCarty, Chief, Section of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Reading Hospital. “Ensuring our patients have access to every life-saving procedure they need at our facilities is our ongoing goal.”

Prior to joining Tower Health she served as the Associate Program Director in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Associate Professor of Surgery in the division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and the Director of Surgical Simulation at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York. 

Dr. Akujuo is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Association of Black Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons, Association of Women Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, and the National Medical Association. 

She served as a clinical instructor in Cardiothoracic surgery while undergoing a Complex Mitral Fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, the Chief Resident in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center and completed her Cardiothoracic Surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Akujuo was the Chief Resident in General Surgery at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center in New York and completed her residency and internship in general surgery there. She attended Temple University School of Medicine and received her undergraduate degree from York College – City University of New York.
