READING, PA – City of Reading Mayor Eddie Morán issued the following statement in response to three positive cases of COVID-19 within City Hall.
“Since the beginning of COVID-19, City Hall has been closed to the public while maintaining daily operations with employees safely inside the building. During this time, we have also adopted telework practices, where most efficient, for the health and safety of our employees and their families.
As we approach the colder months, cases are expected to spike throughout the nation, including Berks County and the City of Reading. Just recently, I was made aware of three positive COVID-19 cases of employees within City Hall. Fortunately, these cases have been isolated and pose no further harm to other employees nor to the public. My management team and our Human Resources Department have activated the proper contact tracing protocols to prevent an outbreak while the affected employees were sent home to be tested and ordered to quarantine at home.
For this reason, I have closed City Hall for the disinfection and sanitizing of the entire building for the remainder of this week. This order applies to all employees, except for first responders. City Hall is expected to re-open for employees on Monday, November 9 th. However, I remind our residents that City Hall remains closed to the public. I also urge all residents to continue practicing safety measures and recommendations put forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Our Citizens Service Center staff will continue to operate as usual at 877-727- 3234.
We can stop the spread and continue building a better Reading together.”
