RPL Names Dr. Daniel B. Kimball Jr Campaign Chair of Annual Appeal

Reading, PA – Reading Public Library announced that Dr. Daniel Kimball has been named as the Campaign Chair of the institution’s 2020 Annual Appeal. Dr. Kimball is a retired Internal Medicine Physician, who served as a Departmental Director for 15 years at the Reading Hospital and as Medical Director for Hospice St. John for 5 years, retiring in 2010.  He remains active with his church and on several local and state professional, educational and service association boards.

Dr. Kimball stated the following as one of his reasons for serving in this leadership role, “As a twenty-two-year resident of the city, I have come to realize how valuable an asset our Reading Public Library has become, particularly in these times of limited opportunity for interpersonal interactions.  The emphasis given to eLearning couldn’t have come at a better time and deserves our ongoing support.”

The goal for the 2020 campaign is $30,000.  Among other things, income from the library’s Annual Appeal will support salaries for library staff who bring books and movies to fourteen Reading senior centers, teach computer proficiency and resume building classes at library branches, city shelters, and parks, and provide “Go Packs” with free books and materials for art and STEAM projects to thousands of city children.

According to Renee Dietrich, President of the library’s Board of Trustees, “We are very pleased that someone with Dr. Kimball’s commitment to our city has agreed to chair this important annual campaign. During the months when COVID-19 closed the Library to the public, people continued to rely on Reading Public Library to be informed, entertained, educated, and connected.  Private support is essential to continue the initiatives needed to support the important and significant work of public libraries.”
