The Jewish Federation of Reading in partnership with Immanuel United Church of Christ announce a service event on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Families with young children and youth are invited to a National Day of Service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Volunteers will join hundreds of thousands of American across the country in volunteer service. The annual events honors Dr. King’s legacy and is an opportunity for Americans to renew their own personal vows of citizenship through service to others and engage in conversations to advance community goals.
From 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 99 S. Waverly St. Shillington, PA 19607, families with young children under age 12 will work on a service project benefiting Helping Harvest. Children will collect food items to be donated to Helping Harvest via socially distanced drive through in the parking lot of Immanuel UCC. Participants may also park and help fill dry meal kits for families experiencing hunger. Masks are required and social distance measures will be in place.
Donations of boxes of pasta, jars of sauce, cereal boxes, Powerade, Ramen Noodles, mac n cheese or canned pasta, granola bars, snack bags of chips/pretzels, fruit snacks, individual applesauce, and individual breakfast items will be accepted the day of the event. The community can also place items in the blue bin outside the office of Immanuel UCC or at the Jewish Community Center, 1100 Berkshire Blvd. Suite 125 Wyomissing, PA 19610 through Monday.
