Berks Heim Earns Four-Star Rating In All Categories In Care Compare Report

Berks Heim Nursing and Rehabilitation, the Berks County Skilled Nursing Facility in Bern Township off Route 183, earned improvement in all areas of the fivestar rating in the recently published Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Compare report. Berks Heim also achieved a Deficiency Free Survey on their annual Department of Health Survey conducted in December 2020.

In the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Compare report, Berks Heim received four stars in overall rating, with four stars awarded in the Health Inspection, Quality Measures, Staffing and RN Staffing categories. Berks Heim provides short and long-term skilled nursing and rehabilitative care as well as a memory support neighborhood with an emphasis on quality. Berks Heim focuses on an individualized approach to healthcare and all staff are dedicated to providing for the social, emotional, and physical well-being of our residents.

The report showed that the majority of Pennsylvania’s nursing facilities reflected no change in their overall star ratings. Of PA facilities, 71 percent showed no change in their overall star rating, 57 percent showed no change in their quality measures rating, 75 percent showed no change in the staffing component and 88 percent showed no change in survey rating. Ratings can be found on the Care Compare page of www.medicare.gov.

For the Department of Health Survey, the DOH conducted both a routine and a focused infection control inspection to determine ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements, which is a condition of licensure and certification. The Department of Health serves as the state licensing agency and State Survey Agency for CMS. The inspection process took about one week based on Berks Heim’s size and the number of residents served.

“We are so proud of our dedicated staff and their commitment to quality care at Berks Heim,” said Christie Kennedy, Berks Heim Administrator. “To achieve these outstanding above average ratings, as we continue to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic, is remarkable.”
