Clarification on 2021 Real Estate Tax Bills Sent for Exempt Properties

As part of a recent transition to a new system, the Berks County Treasurer’s Office sent out 2021 Real Estate Tax Bills to the owners of all Berks County properties, including tax-exempt properties. The bill paperwork was sent to all properties to allow property owners to review and confirm that their data is correct within the new system. The bills sent for exempt properties indicate that no amount is due for that property.

The mailing has resulted in many questions about the bills sent for exempt properties. The bills for exempt properties will show the tax type and millage rate for the area where the property is located, but the tax amount due is listed as $0. The Treasurer’s Office would like to make it clear to property owners that the tax that is due is listed in the “Pay This Amount” line of the bottom of the bill. If that line shows $0, there is no tax on the property and no payment is needed.

The Treasurer’s Office is asking all property owners to carefully review the data listed on their bill to confirm it is accurate in the new system. If the information is not correct, the property owner should contact the Treasurer’s Office at [email protected] or by calling (610) 478-6640, ext. 5648.
